THW supports GIZ in Tadzhikistan
By order of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), THW-expert advisors tested its office buildings in Tadzhikistan for earthquake resistance. The reason for the activities is the fact that the Central Asian Republic has consistently been devastated by earthquakes.

From 4 until 11 February, THW-earthquake experts and building expert advisors from the Rapid Deployment Unit for Salvage Operations Abroad (SEEBA) checked both the local office building of the GIZ in the capital of Dunschabe and two further locations for earthquake resistance. The THW-volunteers also gave advice on further preventative measures, for example on fire protection. Often, due to destroyed gas pipes, fires break out after earthquakes. The assessment of the implementation of the measures is planned for mid-2012.
In 2010, THW-experts had already helped to build up a radio network in the Tadzhikistan valley of Seravshan, by cooperating with the GIZ.
