THW trains UNHCR-staff
For more than ten years, THW has prepared staff of the High Commissioner for Refugees of the United Nations (UNHCR) for crisis operations. The latest “Workshop on Emergency Management” (WEM) took place at THW’s National Training School of Neuhausen in Baden-Württemberg from 5 until 14 October.

Together with the UN and the Federal Police, THW-members train UNHCR-staff in the planning, setting up and operation of refugee camps. Among other things, the syllabus includes First Aid, international law or the installation of sanitation. About 40 participants from five continents took part in the WEM-workshop. The highlight was a three-day field exercise, which allowed the UNHCR-members to practically profit from what they had learned. The training measures are financed by the Foreign Office.
