60 years of national diversity at THW

What we take for granted today and has traditionallz been implemented, was a rarity 60 years ago: In 1956 the American Arthur Brasgalla was the first "foreigner" to join THW. Mr Brasgalla, American sergeant First Class in the US Army, became a volunteer in THW's local section of Passau.

THW National Training School organises UN courses

For many years, THW has supported international partner organisations in conducting exercises. These trainings help to allow humanitarian organisations to react more quickly and more effectively to emergency situations. This year, two training courses of the United Nations have already been conducted at THW's National Training School.

THW mourns two volunteers

A boating accident of THW in Magdeburg caused two deaths. “I was dismayed to learn of the death of the two volunteers, caused by an accident, this morning.  Sadly, doctors could not prevent the worst. My thoughts are with the families, friends and comrades of the deceased”, said THW-President, Mr Albrecht Broemme today during the annual hour of remembrance on the occasion of the commemoration of the dead at THW’s National Training School in Hoya.
At a round table meeting, representatives of THW and ONPC are planning the continuation of the Tunisian honorary office project.

Export hit honorary office: THW and ONPC pursue their cooperation

A delegation of four people from the Tunisian civil protection organisation ONPC is visiting THW’s management in Bonn for three days. Since Monday, together with THW’s international department, the team has been planning the continuation of the honorary office project, in particular six training courses for voluntary Tunisian experts at the locations of Sidi Bouzid, Jendouba and Ben Arous. THW supports its North African partner to build up a structure within their local civil protection, which is based on voluntary commitment.
At a round table meeting, representatives of THW and ONPC are planning the continuation of the Tunisian honorary office project.

Export hit honorary office: Training for Tunisians under way

Sawing, drilling, tearing down walls: In the local section of Sinzig, THW volunteers are instructing twelve Tunisian disaster management trainers how to handle tools and equipment. On Wednesday, they exercised in a derelict house in Oberzissen. On Tuesday, THW-President, Mr Albrecht Broemme, accompanied by THW’s Federal spokesman, Mr Frank Schulze, visited the guests from Tunisia.

THW in-house exhibition: efficiency test of drinking water technology

During the first international in-house exhibition about the topic of water at the National Training School in Hoya, THW offers an opportunity for innovation to more than 20 exhibitors. The wide range comprises mobile equipment, which is operated by renewable energy, and flexible water containers. For two days, the water experts of THW will carefully examine the large spectrum of mobile drinking water treatment units and accessories for worldwide use.

International Volunteer Day: Get active!

Today’s “International Volunteer Day” underlines the importance of voluntary commitment across Europe. This commemoration day is particularly important for civil protection in Germany, as compulsory military service has been suspended since summer 2011

Tunisian Minister of the Interior visits THW

On Wednesday, the Tunisian Minister of the Interior, Mr Habib Essid, visited the THW Information Centre in Berlin. There, he expressed his thanks for THW’s support in Tunisia. After the riots in Libya in spring, THW volunteers had supported the United Nations in their help for refugees in the neighbour country.
