More mobility with new vehicles

The THW presented the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) in northern Iraq with three new, well-equipped vehicles yesterday. The JCC is a governmental agency in the autonomous Kurdistan Region and will use these vehicles for mobile mission coordination.

As the state disaster relief organization, the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre in the autonomous Kurdistan Region is also responsible for coordinating the government’s assistance to refugees. Currently, the offensive to liberate the city of Mosul has led to an increase in the numbers of internally displaced people seeking safety in Kurdistan Region. The JCC needs to be flexible and mobile if it is to coordinate effectively by responding locally and quickly.

With funds from the German Federal Foreign Office, the THW purchased three off-road vehicles and additional equipment which will support the JCC in this task. The vehicles are fitted with laptops, printers, satellite telephones and GPS devices, as well as maps and office supplies. Additional equipment including tents, tables, chairs and spotlights were also provided in order to ensure the JCC staff can coordinate interventions in a professional, location-independent manner.

The acting German Consul General in Erbil, Christofer Burger, was in attendance on Monday as the THW presented the vehicles and equipment to the Director of the JCC, Hoshang Mohamed.
